The #ArmenianGenocide is one of the darkest chapters in human history. This tragic event occurred in the Ottoman Empire during WW I, resulting in the systematic extermination of over 1.5 million Armenians. It is essential to understand that this genocide was not a sudden outburst of violence. Instead, it was the result of decades of anti-Armenian sentiment deeply ingrained in Ottoman society, known as #Armenophobia. The Armenian people were forced into labor, deported, and killed en masse. They were stripped of their homes, possessions, and basic #humanrights and subjected to unspeakable atrocities, such as rape, torture, and starvation. Despite overwhelming evidence of the atrocities committed against the Armenian people, the #Turkish government denies to this day that a genocide ever occurred. This denial perpetuates the idea that the Armenian people are less deserving of recognition and justice than other genocide victims, and it is a form of Armenophobia in itself. To prevent future genocides, it is crucial to confront the Armenophobic statements head-on. This means acknowledging the role that anti-Armenian sentiment played in the lead-up to the genocide and condemning the Turkish government's ongoing denial of this tragedy.
