A citizen of Ukraine has become a victim of Azerbaijan’s Armenophobia: Kiev complains to the EU

January 24, 2020

Ukraine has asked the EU to respond to Azerbaijan’s “unfriendly” steps. This was told to the “European Truth” by a source informed about the course of the conflict.

The fact is that Azerbaijan banned the entrance of the Ukrainian participant of the seminar “Conflict Analysis”, organised by the European Union within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, to the country because of her Armenian surname.

The seminar was held on January 13-16 in Baku.

The “European College of Security and Defense” (ECBO), which was engaged in organisational work, sent an official invitation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs informed the participants of the seminar, which was approved by the ECBO. Among the participants was also the Director of the Department of International Cooperation and European Integration Mary Hakobyan.

After all the preparatory stages, a notification came from the Azerbaijani side about the refusal of “entry for a representative of Ukraine of Armenian origin”. This is the official wording of Baku.

In connection with the xenophobic and unfriendly step of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine sent a letter to the EU delegation.

Recall that just a month ago, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, during his official visit to Baku, said that Kiev supports Azerbaijan’s position in the Karabakh conflict and stands for the restoration of the territorial integrity of this country. However, today Ukraine itself is faced with the xenophobia of a “friendly” country in relation to its own citizens. The Ukrainian authorities should draw the right conclusions from the current situation.
